Opinions on the name "Irish" for a girl?

The name "Iris" sounds too old to me. Its pretty but its also quickly growing in popularity.

Irish has more youth and character to it and phonetically sounds almost identical to Iris so I think it still sounds pretty.

There are people who name their children India, China, Ireland, Paris, London, Milan, Georgia, Phoenix etc. So there's nothing that "out there" about Irish.

A beautiful flower and mythological messenger goddess to an object belonging to a country? That would be a NO.

If you want something similar, why not look at actual names such as

    Eris

    Eriss

    Erys

    Eryss

    Eurys

    Ardis

    Caris

    Edris

    Elis

    Idris

    Ines

    Innis

    Karis

    Lyris

Not too keen. Sounds like Iris, so go with Iris. You say the name is old, but people are children for such a brief time. And it isn't "too old" for a young adult, going forward. I think having a semi popular name is better than having one that too unique and therefore odd.

But no one names their kid Indian, Chinese, Parisienne, British, Italian, Georgian, etc.

I do not like this name.

Why does it have to be Iris or Irish?

It's too silly sounding for a proper first name.

Plus the stereotype association Irish = drunks.
