Do you think there is a difference between "community service" and "volunteering"? If so what is the difference?

    Community Service is often a Directed action, by courts or some such. Whereas, Volunteering is something done at the decision of the worker.

    "Community service" is often involuntary servitude.

    "Volunteering" is, well, voluntary.

    many volunteer opportunities are not "community service"

    In the broad since of the words, yes they mean the same thing. However, the phrase community service can also mean unpaid work, intended to be of social use, that an offender is required to do instead of going to prison.
