best view of the matterhorn?

My family and I are going to zermatt in September and we want to see the matterhorn. I did some research and found the best view is from a place called Gornergrat, and you have to take a train there. The problem is its over $400 for a round trip, but it only takes 30 min by train. Is there anyway to get there cheaper, or any cheaper alternative with a blew just as good?

I'd try to choose an area where you are away from the mountain and not right underneath it. The trouble with the Alps region in Switzerland is it tends to have V-shaped valleys so you don't get the full open view of mountains. Unlike in Austria with it's U-shaped valleys which gives a more open vista.

Where did you get that information? I've ridden on trains in Switzerland, and it wasn't anything like that expensive. Zermatt is visible from a lot of places- but there are also a lot of picturesque mountains in Switzerland. We stayed in Interlaken, between the mountains, and it was breathtakingly beautiful.

I went on the zermatt matterhorn website https://www.zermatt.ch/en/Media/Tickets/Gornergrat-Ticket 3 adults and one kid round trip from zermatt to gornergrat was about CHF360 and thats about $450 CAD. I dont know why its so expensive, or if im just at the wrong place I was hoping for a cheaper way.
