Why the word “gay” change its meaning?
In not start of 70s or 80s it is not the meaning of this day. It means love and care-free while it is not yet 70s so why someone changes its meaning?
Why they just make another word instead of mocking them with some persons name “Gay”?!
What if do you heard the persons name “Dick”? It sounds someone’s mocking and add to dictionary. What a awful linguistic person.

For years homosexuals were looked down upon. People derided them. However, Some homosexuals felt proud and positive about their sexual orientation, so they used "gay," which meant "blithe and happy," to denote themselves. Of course, folks who still disapproved of homosexuality resented the co-opting of this word. —I don't know that I understand the second part of your question. True, "dick" in slang means "penis," but sometimes people hear a word that can be understood in several ways in the way that is appropriate to its context. "Dick" is one of these words. "B itch," for instance, can be used as a derogatory, negative word for a woman, but it is also simply a female dog. If you were talking to a dog breeder, you probably would hear only the second, clinical meaning.

Gay means Happy and carefree.
Back when Homosexuals began to be open "party animals" (namely Oscar Wilde c. 1895) They were referred to as gay and lighthearted.
IT STUCK, as a euphemism, eventually becoming the term of the day.

Post-war society has undergone a loss of innocence in which being gay in the original sense becomes recognised as a potentially risky endeavour and homosexuality becomes first decriminalised, then beyond public reproach, a state of affairs arguably owing more to protecting the vulnerable than to ethical rectitude.

That is the nature of language. Language is dynamic - ever changing - not static.

You are right, the original meaning of gay was happy and carefree, light-hearted. Gay became another name for homosexual to counteract the theory that gays are more prone to depression

Words change meaning all the time. Look up the word "hack". It used to imply brute force, then skilled tech savvy. Now it means, some fairly common technique.
