Why don't public sit down toilets have lids on them?

I know that sit- down toilets are not the standard globally, so I specified the type most used in the U.S.A.

In the UK most of them do have lids.

    Where I live we have these - they're self-cleaning.

What do they need a lid for? They are ready for action. Some toilets do not even have a seat.

The lid is to keep the micro-mist **** and piss spray from becoming airborne and spreading all over the room. I can't believe I had to explain that.

What’s the point of having them. I use mine to hold my clothes when I’m showering. I doubt anyone does anything in the bathroom other than urinating or crapping so why the need for a lid.

The lid is to keep the micro-mist **** spray and perhaps piss spray as well, from becoming airborne and spreading all over the room. I can't believe I had to explain that.
