Sure, spit and polish (or bulling, as it's known in the British military) is a recognised technique for achieving a glassy shine on boots and shoes. The saying 'spit and polish' comes from this practice.

Not really. When I clean my shoes it’s normally with a wet rag or sometimes when my mom goes laundry she takes them with her so she can wash them.

I don't shine my shoes at all. Shiny shoes are not high up on my list of priorities.
