Is there a historical event which appears to have created the environment leading to what we now call the MeToo era?
Like what was it that drove guys to go after action like they were starving for sex? Was is the women's Lib movement? Come on, you can admit it. Guys Like Sex, Ladies.

There is really two parts that sparked the #MeToo movement into what it's become today. First was the legitimate claim by some women that were being taken advantage of sexually by men that held positions of power over them (think Harvey Weinstein for example). Secondly, and more importantly, was the hijacking of this legitimate movement by feminists to turn it into a general movement against all men. Read on for more regarding this second part.
Feminists had a hard couple of weeks at the outset of this by not knowing how to respond to their friends being tarnished as "rapists" by Hollywood actresses (women). They did not want to appear to be rape apologists, but also wanted to take the focus off of their feminist supporters (men in Hollywood as well as leading Democrat men that were caught in this same predicament).
So the first thing feminists did was to promote this movement right into the mainstream. So far so good. But soon after, they pretty much removed the personal responsibility from their rapist Hollywood and Democrat friends and smeared the blame onto ALL MEN as feminism typically does. The last thing they did was to then shift the focus of this movement from one of rape by individuals in power, to be about "misogyny" and any other acts of men that any woman might wish to complain about.
Thus the #MeToo movement now includes clumsy flirting and touching one's shoulder to be sexual harassment and in need of a #MeToo call-out which then results in swift repercussions for the accused men. Of course, this amounts to a criminalization of normal heterosexual male behavior and will have repercussions right into mainstream society. Men will soon no longer approach women for fear of their approach being taken the wrong way. Men will choose to not work directly with women, or mentor them.
The future for Western society will look a lot more Puritan and somewhat sterile, more "professional" and a lot less fun. Segregation will occur in some areas. This seems to be what lesbian feminism wants on behalf of all women, including heterosexual women.

I know guys like sex, but they could control themselves and realize there is a thing called respect and normal behavior.

I think "Weinstein" was probably the watershed moment. Yes, there were major complaints, but the news media hadn't taken it on as a major cause really until him.
Certainly HR organizations within even medium sized companies regularly deal with harassment complaints both valid and occasionally not valid. Even with BILLIONS of dollars spent by companies dealing with this issue, it really didn't become a media focal point until Weinstein.

Erm, men have always behaved like this. Nothing about that was precipitated by any event. Women talking about it to men (they always talked about it to other women), was precipitated by social media and Weinstein.

In virtually every high profile case from Ailes to Weinstein it was more about power than the sex act itself. The fact that powerful gay men have been caught up in this too indicates that it's not solely an "out to get women" situation. Most males and females "Like Sex". It's just when sex is forced or coerced that it becomes problematic.

A large meteor impacted the Earth s surface, causing a mass extinction of dinosaurs, which allowed mammals to thrive instead of being eaten, which in turn allowed some mammals to invent Jazz, which inevitably makes women crave affection and passion.Source(s): The History of Jazz.
