Depending on the size. Wash in front loader machine cold water, gentle cycle, using Woolite soap.

Dry flat over a screen or slats. I wash my New Zealand wool throws in this manner.

We have some persian carpets which are wool area rugs. We haul one out to the patio and lay it out. Buy carpet shampoo and we have an old floor washer that has 2 rotating brushes. We actually have hot water outside, so we hook up a garden hose, warm water, the shampoo, and scrub away. More dirt comes out than you would think Rinse it off, raise it on a pipe set on some ladders, etc. and rinse again. Let it dry for a couple of days. Roll it up and haul it back inside. I think we are still getting dirt out that the camel brought in a 100 years ago.

Have a professional do a cool water extraction on it.
