Why did Bluray defeat HDDVD in the post VHS format war?

    There are rumors it is because the porn industry picket it but I don't know if they are true since the same people say the porn was why VHS beat Beta but I think that was piracy since Beta was better quality but you could fit more copied movies onto a VHS tape

    There are several reasons. Part of it is strength of the studios backing each one. Blu-Ray was backed by Sony, Disney, and 20th Century Fox. I don't know how large they were in 2006-2007, but Disney (which bought 20th Century Fox) and Sony currently have about 47% of the US market, vs 36% of the other big 3. Part of it is the very large install base from the PlayStation 3 and thus the immediately higher percentage of people who rented Blu-Rays instead of HD-DVD (the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive had to be bought separately).
