Why are Germans so inventive?

The shape of the 1916 steel helmet is used by almost all militaries today as is the over 100 year old 9×19mm Parabellum pistol cartridge. Germans invented the world's first submachine gun, general purpose machine gun, assault rifle, jet fighter, jet bomber, rocket fighter, guided missile, etc, etc. Germans were the grandfathers of military camouflage patterns. Their weapons, equipment, tanks and tactics were better than those of the Allies.

If they were so competent, why did they let an Austrian corporal take them to war. When did Austria ever win a war?

Good schools, efficient language, a culture that doesn't do things the quick and dirty way....

When germans build a house, they assume it will outlive their grandchildren.

English doesn't have a word for "sorgfalt", but two for overdoing it: "meticulous" and "painstaking"

Actually, you are wrong about the helmet. Most countries do NOT use that shape any more.

You're also wrong about the first guided missile. They DID deploy the first ballistic missile (not the same thing) but it was a failure: more people died making them than were killed by them when they were targeted.

And, of course, you left out the most important invention of WWII, which was radar. The Germans were always behind the curve on that, and never developed a working microwave radar during the war.

And you left out the second-most important weapon of WWII, the atom bomb.

I'll try not to laugh too loud about the camouflage claim.

Do not think that German ideas that were never adapted by their military as due to German genius, in fact, it shows German political ignorance.

During WW2 the Nazis gave their engineers and scientists as much materials as they needed plus slave labour from the camps. The Americans only entered the war for a relatively short time and so didn't devote so many resources to military tech, they still managed to make the atom bomb though. The British were resource starved but managed to develop an effect radar cover around the entire country to counter German bombers.

By 45 it was game over, everyone knew the Germans had lost, except Hitler, if they hadn't developed it by then they weren't going to. They would have get resources that were in allied hands

they basically built a large manufacturing infrastructure and supported it with science with 'no' rules no restrictions .. alot of the medical 'advances' we enjoy today are because they just experimented on large numbers of humans .. they were 'driving things ahead' with reckless abandon more or less ..

They are intelligent, innovative and hard-working.

I've worked in Germany. The stereotypes are true.
