Many Chinese martial arts stars have said that kungfu is not used in actual combat. No one has ever played UFC. Let's face it. Kungfu is very good for making movies.

It depends on the instructor and how you train, just like any other style or system,

@ Sexy, there are even mma schools that suck, and dont teach you how to fight.

First define Kung Fu and give example of school. Shaolin Temple Boxing as taught in some South Korean training as alternate to Bul Mong Son as Buddhist Art has many drills similar to Hung Gar and with the conditioning and movement training can be very effective defense moves - especially the Crane and Ape practices. about only Martial Art that teaches killing in 3 days is practical pistol as taught by Marine Gunnery Sergeant or Chicago cop. That is very practical - look at center of mass , get front sight focused and some impression of back sight level, pull trigger, resight/ pull again, repeat until threat is down or out of ammunition.

WuShu isn't always taught for self defense, but there are hundreds of different styles. Many styles and schools focus on more than just self defense/fighting aspects. It's more about artistic technique in some cases bordering on the line of performance art. San Shou is considered to be the sparring portion of WuShu. Many San Shou practitioners are successful in MMA and Kickboxing. It can be practical if taught correctly, but it may require digging for the right school.
