If possible a TA could be assigned to sit with him if he has a specific special need. But in fact you as the parent are the most important person to help him. Do research and experiment with different methods of reward and sanction. Train him to focus more using rewards and sanctions. Be in regular contact with school and if he is disrupting the class and stopping not only himself but others from learning then use your sanctions. Limit use of computers if at all. Read to him. Play board games. Play table tennis or badminton. You can really help to teach him the skills of focus and concentration.

You can't help him, sweet heart.

The only thing you can do is try

to make the lesson as interesting and entertaining, as possible,

    and also notify his parents.

Find out if Jimmy is having issues with his vision

Have a meeting with the guidance counselor, psychiatrist, and his parents to determine what is causing Jimmy's difficulty to focus, and then from there..develop a plan (Whether it be a learning accommodation, more support for Jimmy to help him focus) medications, etc.

Rap his knuckles with a ruler. Find out if he needs glasses. Call his parents.

Start with a subject he is interested in and try to draw it into his lessons.

Check out books from the library. Sometimes they explain things in a more interesting way than a dry textbook does. If he is more of an auditory learner, try books on tape or play aways. Play aways are extremely popular at my library, even for avid readers.

If he is having trouble with reading, help him find books that he enjoys, even if they don't look scholarly. Even reading things like comic books can help strengthen his vocabulary and spelling.

Tutoring would definitely help get things moving faster.

Crack him over the knuckles with a yardstick anytime he isn't focused.

Jimmy needs to be given a battery of test to find what learning level is more suited for his learning abilities. Jimmy could be a genius.

    I don't know this Jimmy.

    Ask him a question.

The "socratic method" is an effective teaching method because it engages the student (i.e. it's not just passive learning).

Well, having sex with him is not a good idea.
