What's the name for the people of central and south america?
are they called native americans , hispanics, latinos , mestizos

Some are indigenous, technically "Native American" but not of US Native ancestry (as in BIA acknowledged tribes). Most are Hispanic, but not all. Brazilians speak Portuguese and many native communities speak indigenous languages. "Latino" is an imprecise word that's only used in the US and doesn't seem to have one agreed upon definition (because somehow Jessica Alba and Jennifer Lopez are "Latina" whereas Cameron Diaz and Christina Aguilera are not...very confusing). "Mestizo" is an admixture of Spanish European and Latin American indigenous heritage and this represents most people who live in Central and South America. But these are huge swathes of land that are pretty diverse and there is no one name that describes them all.

Most of them speak either Spanish or Portuguese, even if their ancestors arrived there from Germany and other European countries, so they are often referred to as Latin Americans.

1. Central Americans.
2. South Americans.
BTW, Barkley Hound, your map is wrong: Mexico is in North America, not Central America.

Most are considered Latin Americans.

All of those labels are in common use (though they mean slightly different things). Why not just call them Central or South Americans?
