I live near by not IN NYC. We have vacationed often in Florida, owned a timeshare there until very recently, and have had enough (except that we go to Tampa every year for Yankee Spring Training!). The old joke is "What is the difference between Florida and YOGURT?" "Only ONE of them has any decent live culture." As career professional classical musicians, we have TRIED to support the arts in Florida - attended concerts, etc. Walked out every time. Only stayed for concerts in which it was touring classical or jazz artists we knew - NOT the home-grown part-time orchestras in FL. Yes, we get heat and humidity in the Hudson Valley - but not nearly as drastic as FL. Do we get some cold and snow? Yes. But I would rather have more changes of season to enjoy. As far as RICH people living in NYC - if their employment/career requires that, then so be it - but betcha they own a second or third home elsewhere, too. Many own places up here. When you have the TRULY Big Bucks, you can go anywhere. We chose to stay here, which is close to all we want, and then we travel the US and internationally each year. It's a big planet - and you never see a hearse with a U-Haul.
