Why are birthdays such a celebration of the self? expecting people to buy you presents, make you a cake, buy you drinks all night?
Isnt this narcissistic??

Not everyone has that sort of a birthday.
I usually get a couple of cards in the mail from distant relatives, some Facebook messages, my daughter makes me a small cake and gives me a gift. That's all.
We might go out somewhere nice for the day if the weather is nice, but I don't go to a bar or anything like that, I don't have a party, and it's no big deal at all.

It does not have to be this way, If you just say your going to a pub / club for instance, to a few friends, and have a good time with everyone,
If you get gifts e.t.c. You havent asked for anything but their company.

Because it’s a celebration that you have 1 less year to live.

I wouldn't say it is narcissistic because it's something everyone has
