why did south africa have apartheid?

In canada racism is a crime against law and is seen as bad as child rape.

why were south africans not willing to make themselves legally equal to black south africans?

I mean since the end of apartheid south africa has become more powerful. can you imagine how much more powerful south africa would be today if during the cold war blacks were not discriminated against for their skin color?

For the same reason the southern US had "Jim Crow" laws. And although you may not like to hear this, Canada has some pretty racist laws, to into the 1960s. Non-white MEN were generally not invited to Canada. Did you not learn this at school?

in modern canada racism of any sort in anyway simply does not exist. the racists have been all been wiped out.

That policy goes back to extreme racists like Cecil Rhodes.  He advocated genocide wherever he could get away with it (i.e., the extermination of Australian Aborigines).  If not, the next-worst thing was segregation.  There is nothing wrong with blacks hanging out with whites, as long as none of them break the laws.

      I like your racist attitude.

It started with AIDs. A man made infection. 2 it helped make & had the atomic bomb. Isrial, Thailand & S Africa were together on that. With Aids it started genocide against the African blacks. It got out of control. So world power turned on the white leaders. Replaced them with black leadership under a heavy smoke screen. There bombs vanished. No one who wish's to stay alive knows were they went. Rodesia under black leadership was already failing. So the world had a good idea what would happen in S. Africa under black leaders. & has happened. So for punishment of there Government. For Aids hitting the world.

No.  AIDS came from monkeys in the Congo. The liberation of Africa started after the war. the World was changing then already. Prime MInister Harold McMillan held a speech in 1956 in Cape Town parliament called " The winds of change through Africa". Nobody would then believe what is now history.

You have an insufficient knowledge of societal etiology, but at least you are aware enough to ask a question. You will find some answers in history books.

Since the end of apartheid nothing close to what you said has happened They are borderline civil war, and they seized white owned farmland and didn't know how to run farms on it. If they didn't have the gold and diamonds they would be totally screwed.

That is for world export. Also just one example of changes made. It was realised long ago the country will have to be transformed away from minerals to sustain competition on world markets.  It was done.

Because there was like 1 white person per 1000 black people in the country and surrounding areas that could freely move to South Africa. How can you compare it to Canada

South Africa had not gotten more powerful. It's a complete mess right now

The squalor was truly horrific.  I saw it. This was an underlying reason to build Soweto and other townships.  Brick houses with doors, windows and roofs. Certainly not Washington, D.C. yet not that squalor.
