Are the astronauts trained to dispatch (kill) aliens or try and communicate at first contact?

I only see the astronauts running on treadmills and doing summersaults. I think they should be sitting in a turret ready to hit the first ship of space chimps that get near earth with a nuclear particle accelerator.

Yeah, so there is a very small chance of long distance space travel. Well it could happen. Instead of growing space carrots they should be on full alert ready to exterminate the alien bastards. If not they will take our water and women.

So are the astronauts trained to fight or just float around?

If aliens are able to travel the vast interstellar distances between us and the nearest habitable planet, they're going to be at least hundreds of years ahead of us, technology wise, and could potentially be millions of years ahead. Picking a fight with them would be like a cave man attacking a fully armed battle tank. The best strategy would be to approach them diplomatically and hope they don't decide to vaporise us anyway

ETs can't ever come here, so there's no need for astronauts to fight things that don't exist.

Science fiction yet again. Earth is flat. God is real, and Jesus is Lord.
