US coal mines suddenly close, workers left in limbo, paychecks bounce but helping would be socialism, right ?

    Maybe according to some americans.

In ACTUAL socialism, miners have higher wages than doctors - and everybody would have a job

Trump will bring back all the old technology so we are once again, reliant on coal... so that way, his fans will be happy with none of that technological advancement voodoo coming from liberals

Those mines closed because the ignorant have not wanted to use 1860 technology to make coal usable. Further such a product could be converted from $ 60.00/ton coal to $360.00 ( 6 barrels ) of oil by using 1929 technology partially funded by the U. S. government. Of course recover of the rare earths, and Gallium ( at $ 1700./ounce ) might be a nice side benefit as well.

I would have to disagree with your scenario. The coal industry has been in decline for decades. There is nothing sudden about it.

Unhappily, coal is simply an antiquated energy form. Telling coal miners they will be going back to work is like saying the buggy whip industry is going to make a giant comeback.

@ Uncle Pennybags: I lived in WV for 30 years, and I know about coal. Coal was in serious decline decades before anyone heard of Obama.

Lol. THAT would probably be OK. Trump, legitimate emperor of earth, who can do no wrong, hath decreed that coal mining should be supported. Let no man argue with this decree.

If he had not decreed that, and if Obama had tried to help unemployed coal miners, then it would be some kind of evil socialism. Maybe 'Cultural Marxism'? Communism? Take your pick.

They made more money through natural gas, making it not even worthwhile to mine the remaining coal.

No worries, Trump said he would fix that when he got elected

And he did. Look at the gov't jobs data on coal mining. A huge drop off of coal mining jobs under Obama, then Trump takes over and it stops and coal mining jobs even increase by several thousand. https://data.bls.gov/timeseries/CES1021210001

Well, socialism is basically nationalizing an industry or company, or regulating it to the point where the gov't is basically controlling it.

I don't see how unemployment benefits would fit in that description.

ObamaCare would. Universal Healthcare would. But not unemployment benefits, which by the way are handled and issued by the states.

Liberals want government to decide winners and losers

    Correct.

Trump rallied around bringing coal back just to get their votes. Sad!
