Why is petrol in Indonesia 59p a litre compared to £1.28 in UK when Indonesia does not involve itself in foreign wars?

Because petrol in Indonesia isn't taxed as heavily as in the UK. 60% of the price in the UK is tax. Without the tax the price would be 51p.

The high cost of fuel in the UK has nothing to do with wars - the price of fuel in the uk is so high because the government imposes several taxes on the basic pump price which go to pay for government expenditure

Firstly Indonesia has its own oil supplies. Fuel quality varies between countries so maybe theirs is a poorer quality fuel. I remember a segment on a current affairs show where they showed many Africans in their country were making a living cleaning carburettors in cars because the cheap poor quality fuel caused all sorts of problems. The lower wages of Indonesian workers means processing, cartage and seller's costs are way lower as well. I believe much of the cost per litre of fuel in the UK is actually tax. Likely the UK has to import oil, then pay much higher refinery costs, then higher cartage costs to a service station that will have expensive staff manning them. Costs in modern countries are always much higher than in developing countries. That's why so many people go to Bali in Indonesia for holidays as they get much more holiday for their money.

Because the british government taxes it heavily, about 60% of the cost of a litre of petrol in the uk is tax.

Lots of tax, if you don't like it don't drive

That would be the tax imposed by the British government on fuel. Fuel prices generally have absolutely nothing to do with wars, unless a particular war wipes out supplies.

Most of that UK price is made up of government taxes which I believe is about 86p. They are ripping us off.
