How much of his diet can come from raw meat?

My cat is 16 years old, and in good health except that he is taking medicine for hyperthyroidism. Recently he has lost a lot of interest in cat food and has less appetite due to the medicine.  But he goes mad for raw meat - beef, tuna and chicken. How much of his diet can come from raw meat?

Why are you feeding your cat meat? Don't you know that that is harmful to the environment.

You must teach your cat to become vegan so that it may truly be healthy.

    Go vegan or go broke!

Cats and other animals cannot survive long on a non-meat diet. Stop trying to push your food issues on innocent pets.

Ask a vet to be sure, it may be better to cook it.

You can feed him all the raw meat he wants. Cats eat that in the wild. Just check with the vet and be sure it is what you would eat.

All of it. But you can't just give him raw meat and nothing else. Don't give him fish (raw or cooked). Stick to beef, chicken, turkey, venison. Reasearch raw feeding and fix a proper diet. Here's a link to raw feeding and what you need.

cats are carnivors which means that all they get to eat naturally is fresh flesh-- rodents , birds , reptiles andall have to be alive

so don't worry as canned food was probably the cause of the problem

All of it. It's what his system is designed for anyway. Just make sure you know where the meat comes from and that it is free from parasites and pathogens.

A true diet for cats is all raw meat, which includes whole fish. If you can find someone who catches fish then freeze the fish first as it kills any parasites in it, same with any wild meat ( like rabbit) and source top quality human grade meat. To make it easier for you if you get fresh portion it out into containers and freeze it, then you have a week/months supply which you just take out, defrost and feed and of course that way you can mix the meats/fish when you portion them, so your cat has a varied diet

NO fish - its not a natural diet and it can cause a lot of problems due to the lack of taurine in fish..

That's what cats would eat in the wild, clearly. And he's a domesticated cat, so eating raw meat is not going to make him feral again. Let him eat what he wants. He's 16! Make sure the raw meat is fresh and from a safe source. Store it as if you were going to eat it yourself, and don't leave any lying around in his bowl. Let him eat his fill, then take the leftovers away and throw them out. Although the meat for our consumption is very regulated so that it is safe, do make sure he's wormed really regularly, just in case.

Cats are carnivores. However I would cook the food first as an excess of pathogens may make him ill, or worse.
