IT's NOT SANE anymore to imply that an AUDI is expensive! The TRUTH is that most cars NOW use the same transmission builder, ZF< in there cars! This means CADDY, FORD, HNDAI and KIA< and many CHRYLSER cars! When you see 8 or 9 speed tyrannies, they are usually ZF trannies! The ENINGES are TOTALLY RELIABLE Except for ONE THING! YOu CANNOT USE VALVOLINE or other WAX based oil! YOU MUST use only 502/505 oil! This means MOBIL ONE EUROPEAN 0W-40 or better! PENNZOIL EURO and PLATINUM give a 500,000 miles EXTENDED WARANTY with proof of use. Other oils a are MOTUL; Liqui moly; AMSOIL< and TOTAL ENERGY OIL from FRANCE. The TRANS requris a full fluid change at about 80,000 and it will need s TIMING BELT KIT from CONTINENTAL at about 95k miles! This includes a NEW WATER PUMP: and FRESH COOLANT from PENTOSIN! Use 1-800 ALL AUDI: 1-800- ALL EURO< or BLAUPARTS for more wear items! Use FUEL SAVING MICHELLIN or other "GREEN"tires that are QUIET and stil handle superbly. CONTINENTAL makes the timing belt kits an ALSO have GREAT Tires for you! The only other GLITCH is that aAUID< like newer MUSTANGS< use double ball joint suspensions. BLAUPARTS will have GREAT REPLACEMENT parts whent he time comes! GOOD LUCK < and never believe that ANY AUDI of NANY YEAR is pricey to own! Even TOYOTAS and HONDAS usually require TIMING BELT and WATER PUMP KITS! So does may ASAIN cars, too! GOOD LUCK and remember that the AUDI is a THIRTY YEAR CAR< made of the BEST materials out there They do NOT RUST either~

    "any advice?"

Yeah. DON'T, unless you have lots of money.

It all depends what you want to use it for . If you will travel 40 km a day ,like to work ,it is not a good idea to get that car even if it cost only $1000 .For that better take honda or toyota . If you are a boy who will use it to score easier with girls than buy audi .

If you can afford it, you can buy anything you want. Any ten year old car could be a problem.

Thinking about it is as far as you’re likely to get.

Once you’ve had quotations for insurance for a young driver with that car you’ll start looking for a cheap old low performance beater with minimum insurance cover. Something like an old Toyota Corolla or a Honda Fit.

Also Audi/VW really aren’t very reliable cars, and BMW are even worse, and that gets to be a far bigger problem as they get older, even if they have been maintained correctly. But they are also expensive to repair, especially so if you live outside of Europe. Ten year old Toyotas and Hondas can also be dogs if they have been poorly maintained, so take the time to search for one with an excellent maintenance record.

German cars can be a pain to fix but work well.

They are expensive to work on anything with those, a used one wouldn't be a good idea. I would suggest a Ford or Chevy, they aren't as expensive to work on but they're alot better built and last longer than those so called luxury vehicles.
