What are some descriptive words (nouns?) formed from a combination of other existing words?

I'm looking for words like bookworm and couch potato, but wasn't sure if there's a term for words like these.

Quentin provides an interesting list, but the words you want and the examples you give are not portmanteaus. They are compound nouns, a concept that is different from the meanings of either of the nouns making it.

    Examples include:

    moonlight

    railroad

    streetlight

    armchair

    cowboy

    footprint

    fireman

    baseball

    password

    barnyard

    and a bazillion more.

The term for words like these is 'portmanteau words'.

Those words are treated as nouns, but are actually adjective-noun combinations. You can find lots more on the link below.
