Whats a comprehensive exam?

I'm taking college physics right now, and in my syllabus it says that our final exam is comprehensive. What does comprehensive mean? Does that mean I have to pass the final in order to pass the class? Or just that its required to take the final exam?

Your class syllabus should show what percentage of your total grade the final exam is worth,

Comprehensive exam means you will be tested on everything you learned in the class throughout the semester.

It covers everything in the course, not just material covered after the midterm. Usually, you have to pass the final to pass the class. And it's always required to take the final exam.

It means the final covers everything in the class. Usually such exams count for 25 or even 30 percent of your overall grade.
