I invited a friend to spend the night, but now won’t leave, so is this a job for the maintenance man to kick him out? Should I call maintena?

No it's a matter for the police. Explain to your "guest" that you will be calling the police and making a trespassing complaint against this person if they don't leave in the next 5 minutes. Then call if necessary and realize that this person is NOT your friend.

Call the police to remove him, and get a restraining order against him. You may have to pay to have the lock changed on your apt. door.

This person is NOT A FRIEND. Your communication skills with him are lacking. You invited for "A Night" not for the rest of your life. Tell him to find a hotel. Boot his stuff out the door. You owe him nothing. Police do not like to deal with such matters but CAN. He is not paying your rent. One night does not mean Longer "unless he asks and you agree."
. Not maintenance man's job or that of management(the LL) All he wants is the RENT money owed to him for your apartment. However in your lease it states whether there is 1 person or 2 in your unit so #2 has to go...if you still want your unit and not also get kicked out onto the street...by the LL.
. Really, it is UP TO YOU to get them out... then call the cops.Don't say he is a friend, he is a stranger to you and he broke in. Cops deal with that.
It is a white lie and it is the truth. He is not your friend. You barely know the guy/gal.

That's not what a maintenance man does. They do what they're paid to do. Fix things like lights in buildings.

If he has not slept there for thirty days, then he cannot claim residency and continue to squat there until he is evicted.
The maintenance man is not the route to go in order to get an unwanted guest to leave your apartment/condo.
Write to your friend, so you have documentation, that when you invited him to stay for one night on date X, you did not anticipate, expect or give permission for him to stay X number of nights, therefore you are politely asking them to leave as they are not a welcomed room mate, nor are they legally able to stay as they are not on your lease. Give them 24 or 48 hours to vacate. Keep a copy of the document.
If they are not out within 24 to 48 hours, pack up their things and put them by the door after you change your locks. When they come a knocking, push their crap out the door and close it. Over and OUT.

It's a civil legal matter. Nothing to do with maintenance.

No, the maintenance man fixes the building, not the people in it!

'friend' is trespassing so this is a job for local police
