In the 20th century Eugenics was the belief that by selective breeding we could control the quality of the human race. By either discouraging (negative eugenics) people who did not posess the ideal qualities from reproducing, or encouraging (positive eugenics) people who did posess ideal qualities from breeding, some believed that the human race could be improved. This theory fell by the wayside, due to the atrocities of the Nazi regime. Modern Eugenics focuses on things such asbirth control, genetic screening, genetic engineering and prenatal screening, to name a few. I'm sure you've heard of "designer babies." The idea is that through medical procedures done before fertilization, parents can pick and choose certain traits that they want their child to posess -even the sex of the baby! This is a moral debate. Some believe we are trying to play God, and we should leave well enough alone, while others believe that there is nothing wrong with a little improvement on an already amazing creature. It's up to you to decide where you stand. I hope this helps!
