US citizens can enter France for up to 90 days without a visa for tourism only, or on a Schengen visa. You enter Monaco from France. No border controls between France & Monaco even though Monaco is not a member of the EU or of the Schengen Zone.

Monaco is not a member of the Schengen area but it doesn't actually have any land border controls so realistically to get to Monaco you have to enter France. France IS a member of the Schengen area and that means you can visit for 90 days out of each 180 days. Going to Monaco does not count as exiting the Schengen area so pay attention to the dates if you plan a long stay.

    Not for a short visit.

You would normally enter from France. Both countries are in the Schengen Area and US citizens don't need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. You need a passport with at least 6 months' validity from the day you arrive.

Would it be too far fetched if I suggest you take a look at the official website of Monaco?!
