You get a warning about the pending suit...followed quickly by the suit itself. Attorneys only get involved for bigger amounts...so they are planning to come after you.

Lawyers don't mess around for months on end, the way collection agencies do. Once it has been sent to a lawyer for collection, you will be sued. You may first receive a letter advising you to pay what you owe, threatening a lawsuit if you do not. If you force them to sue you, expect to owe a whole lot more when all is said and done.

It does not mean either of those things. It does not mean it is going to a collection agency. It does not it is going to court. It means exactly what it says: it is going to a lawyer. It might go to a collection agency or court or both, but "forwarded your account to an attorney for collection" does not mean that it will.

They are sending it to the attorney to get it to court

Its PROBABLY an empty threat. Sometimes attorneys offices even have their own collection department too.

But, what can happen in most states is they could sue you and garnish your wages. (Except not in Texas)

If you do get sued, and you show up to court, you can usually make arrangements at that time but then, the wage garnishment would be automatic if you miss a payment. (except no wage garnishment in texas)

Putting a lien on your house is possible but highly unlikely.

It’s going to an attorney who will take you to court.

It means they are either going to sue you or they want you to think they are going to sue you.

It could be an attorney who works for a collection agency or it could be an attorney that the business has hired.
