It takes a lot of calculation to figure out the real pay and benefits of a job. For instance American politicians are payed under the scale of the business markets, although far above the scale of most whom they pass laws over. But when you figure out the graft, political favors they receive and the extra perks, they are probably paid much better than their annual salary earnings would indicate. And whereas many crimes can had adverse effects such as jail and mob hits, politicians can usually shield their shady dealings and live a fairly easy life. Take Mario Cuomo's son. His top two henchmen are currently serving sentences, but just before the commission investigating the "THREE men in a room", he dissolved the commission. Crime does pay for little Andy.

Depends what qualifications and degrees you have but if you are young and planning your future never go for the highest paying job as it can be boring, go for a job you will enjoy doing but being a neurosurgeon is probably the highest paying job
