If high blood pressure runs in your family what steps can you do to prevent future generations from getting it?

    Nothing, unless you do genetic engineering.

    Either that, or have children with someone who doesn't have

    any recessive traits for the disorder. If it's a sex linked trait on

    the mother's side, then there's not a whole lot you can do. It's

    all in the roll of the die.

    Workout, have a balance and healthy diet, sensible weight.

    Make sure they maintain a sensible weight. It is not guaranteed that you will pass it on, two of my brothers have it, one doesn't. It can be easily managed with medication.

  • Try to marry in to that Italian family that has no history of heart disease, in spite of their high fat, high cholesterol diet. Selective breeding doesn't always have to be taboo.

      I have cousins on my mom's side. I am afraid they will inherit high blood pressure.
