Get that student too help the very person he/she is being racist too with there homework or along those lines.Sometimes kids dont understand what they really doing or saying?By making them actually spend time with the person they are bullying, might actually do them some good.At the very least, they wont want too do it again if thats the consequences!!haha or make them spend there whole lunch break together.I know this sounds stupid but I was once a bully and said alot of racist stuff too other students.I mostly did it out of having a laugh.Never ocurred too me that what i was doing actually hurt them?Almost as if they werent human.Just someone too make fun of or do stupid things too.Untill I actually got too know them.I than realised they had feelings and actually cool!! I know, sounds weird but what can i say.I had a bully/racist mentality not a caring one.cheers

I would not punish anybody for holding any opinion they wanted. I live in the US, not north korea.

    Same for any victimless crime.

By doing nothing... 'Punishing' students for having certain beliefs doesn't really promote free thinking, now does it?...

You must realise that most racialism is the results of ignorant indoctrination from past generations. Therefore the child follows such teaching without much reasonings because the poor little sod knows no better. To make him look a fool in front of other students is not going to improve the situation because he has been brainwashed into his present situation by someone who had far fewer brains than he had, but had the power to dominate the childs ignorance at that stage.

its goner be a long process to change that child's mind, because he has learnt to think dominated with another persons prejudices. Poor little bugger. What a way to bring up a kid to believe in a set of prejudices that will be an impediment to him throughout his entire life.

It would be counter-productive to 'punish' someone for 'being racist'. But you could make sure they stopped making racist comments out loud.

I would tell the principal, and we would have a serious chat with the parents. Then the principal will decide the best course of action, whether is expelling the child or some sort of anger management counseling .
