The other answers are better for class, but here is how I instinctively did it. I imagined the coins in my hand. I put 5 of the nickels with the quarters to make a dollar, then took one dime away from the pile of dimes to make another dollar. That's two dollars. Then I have a dime and two nickels left, which is 20 cents. So, $2.20

I remember doing this in about grade 3. You shouldn't be on Yahoo Answers at that age.

So kids today can't do simple math anymore - so sad.

    3 quarters = 75 cents.

    11 dimes = $1.10.

    7 nickels = 35 cents.

    With me so far...?

    Add it up and you get 75 + 110 + 35 = $2.20.

    See how simple...?

3 quarters and 5 nickels would be 1 dollar.

10 dimes would be another 1 dollar.

That leaves you 1 dime and 2 nickels which is 20¢

    So your total would be:

    $2.20

    75c + 110c + 35c = 220c = $2.20

Add the amounts up. Or just count them. It’s that simple.
