When was the British army at its best between 1704-1914 relative/compared to its contemporary foes?

    I would say in the 20th century as back before that they were generally fighting natives who only had spears and were easily killed or scared off by soldiers with rifles. In the 20th century foes of Britain were much better armed and the British soldier has had a tougher time beating them as they were fighting on much more even terms.
