Our species has existed for over 200 thousand years living in Africa until about 80 thousand years ago. Neanderthals, Denisovans, Red Deer Cave People, H. floresiensis, and maybe a couple others shared the planet with us and some lived in the colder places in Asia, particularly Neanderthals and Denisovans. When we left Africa, DNA evidence suggests humans hybridized with Neanderthals and Denisovans.
Our most recent period of glaciation ended just over 13 thousand years ago and it warmed to a climate optimum about 7 thousand years ago. Our species now survives in places like the Arctic to the Kalahari to the Amazon. We are quite adaptable due to our intelligence. I agree that some people grossly exaggerate the threat of warming. I think many of our ancestors would be pretty disgusted with the whining when they lived in very harsh conditions. We live in warm wonderful times and those that complain live in relative comfort. It is quite an easy time to survive.
