Why is it necessary for British soldiers to wear bear fur hats...for the tourist in London?

    It is mainly part of their ceremonial dress, worn on all ceremonial duties such as guarding royal palaces, royal wedding, stare funerals, etc..

      It is not 'for the tourist in London'. The right to wear bearskins was granted to the Grenadiers following the Battle of Waterloo. This was extended to the other regiments of foot guards in 1831

      All military guardsmen carry bayonets, 'for the tourist' in case they need to be poked hard with one.

    They don't wear them just for the tourists, they are a part of their ceremonial uniform.

      It has been part of the ceremonial uniform for 200years nothing to do with tourists.Most of the
      time they wear normal British Army Uniform
