If I remove the taps from my tap shoes can I use them as soft soled dance shoes?

I’m doing a play at a community theatre this year and they require me to have some sort of soft soled shoe, can I remover the taps and use them as such?

Yes you should be able to do that,

Just show the director your tap shoes and ask first.

What kind of tap shoe do you have?

Soft sole dance shoes have a more flexible arch whereas tap shoes don’t. You can’t point your foot well in most traditional tap shoes. They also have a rigid heel and a thicker sole. I suggest you talk to the director and ask for shoe recommendations. Most likely they want a soft sole Jazz shoe without a high heel.

FYI you may end up ruining your tap shoes as once you unscrew the taps and take them off, it may be hard to get them back on due to the screw holes loosening up.
