I wasn't supposed to for 4-6 weeks and after that i still gave myself a dry socket - i dunno how people are saying 24 hours.

Did you ask your dentist? Using straws after getting a tooth pulled can have serious (and very painful) consequences. The sucking can cause the blood clot to dislodge, resulting in a dry socket. Never had one, but I'm told they're excruciatingly painful. I seem to recall my dentist told me 2 weeks when I got my wisdom teeth pulled out. Most important - call you're dentist. Don't take the advice of idiots on Yahoo! who might be leading you wrong on purpose. There are a lot of assholes out there.

Never. Straws have been outlawed in most countries.
