Are car insurance companies required to give a cancellation notice before canceling your policy?

Not if you have broken the conditions of the contract. For example if you just lost your licence due to a drink driving charge why should they be compelled to cover you once they are notified?

Auto insurance is almost never canceled unless payments have stopped. You know if payments have stopped.
