Why do Georgia and Alabama want to impose a Southern Baptist theocracy on its citizenry through draconian abortion laws?

Update:

Not everyone in the state is a Baptist (or super-conservative Catholic), so why should they have to abide by their restrictive rules on sexual morality?

Because murder is considered to be a sin.

Don't blame this law on the citizens of Georgia and Alabama, on conservatives, or on Southern Baptists. No state-wide referendum election was held, in which the citizens of those states could express their wishes. The old men in the Georgia and Alabama State Legislatures passed a law that THEY wanted passed. They didn't ask the citizens of those states any thing about it.

The religious right is big in the south, which is why I'm glad I live in the southwest in Arizona not the southeast
