In my 20s, I lived in a neighborhood where the universal beverage was beer. I didn't like the stuff, and set out to develop a taste for it. My first effort was a shandy, half beer and half lemonade, reducing the lemonade over time. When I got to a fourth, I went straight beer. The other variation that is available in the southwest where I grew up is a Beer Mary. About a quarter tomato juice. More macho than the shandy, it's a regular in beer bars in that local. After 50 years, I can kind of enjoy a beer, and really like a good Stout, but mostly stick to Scotch and cocktails.
