Tough call. Both countries were driven into the ground by incompetent leaders.

Zimbabwe was once the bread basket of Africa. Now they can't even feed themselves. Mugabe was a communist that thought it was a good idea to take over the farms of the whites. Which I don't agree with. But at least I can understand it. The problem is, the squatters that took these over knew zip about farming. Now all they grow is weeds.

Venezuela used to have a thriving middle class. Hugo Chavez thought he could take oil revenue, give it to the poor, and neglect oil field maintenance. Now the oil fields are in disrepair, production falling, and the workers go unpaid. He was smart & took their guns away, so they couldn't shoot @ their oppressors. That was definitely thinking ahead.

Both these countries had poor. But they also had a middle class & employment for many of the poor. Now everyone is equally desperate & poor.

Venezuela is used as an example because it was once thriving and with socialism it became the dump that is is extremely fast. The one time vacation destination because a hell hole in just a couple of decades. Zimbabwe never had as much to loose. So in a way Venezuela has lost a lot more economically than Zimbabwe
