Clearly the previous responder has never played truly complex classical works using extended harmonic and rhythmic vocabulary. Both of these genres require a large working compendium of knowledge and technique. But Classical piano relies more on reading abilities, while jazz requires the player to use more improvisation , using material from the frame of the composition.

Jazz chord changes are also very complex and irregular compared to traditional classical piano pieces. Though both advanced classical and jazz students will know all the scales in different keys, jazz musicians will use this knowledge in a more hands on way than an average classical pianist.
