Covering the costs of rockets?

Would it bother you if NASA, the USAF, and space-X had logos painted on the outside of the rockets? Just imagine if they sold advertising rights? Rocket launches get a lot of TV coverage, and most of the audience are students. Why not have that Nike logo on the side of the rocket?

    Consider the negative advertising a company would get if the rocket failed. Why would they want to take the risk?

    In the US, about 100 rockets are launched each year (it fluctuates). How much major network TV coverage are you seeing? SpaceX occasionally gets a mention, but your assertion that they get "a lot of TV coverage" just isn't correct.

    Advertising has to target people who will purchase something. Nike advertises their shoes at sporting events - because you need athletic equipment to participate in sports. Food and drink advertising tends to be aimed at the largest audience possible (sports, but also major entertainment events like popular TV shows). Mayweather v. Pacquiao had over 4 million PPV buys (meaning many times that in viewership when you consider people watching as groups) - Burger King paid a million dollars to have their mascot walk to the ring as part of Mayweather's entourage.

    So who is the target audience? Who do you think is going to watch a Falcon Heavy launch and be persuaded to choose Nike shoes over another brand because they put the swoosh on the side of the rocket? If the buy-in is on the order of maybe tens of thousands of dollars, maybe it's worth it. But I don't see the return on a larger investment.
