The Isle of Wight, where I was born, is a county of England. When I was born it was part of the county of Hampshire, but it has been a separate county for many years. The word "county" is almost exclusive to the UK. Some counties of the UK have names ending in "-shire", such as Hampshire and Yorkshire. It is possibly misleading to think of any part of mainland Britain as a "province, as stated by Starrysky The info which you have been given is wrong.

" Possible examples of Stage 5 countries are Croatia, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Japan, Portugal and Ukraine."

Isle of Wight not mentioned, because it is not a country, but a shire or province.
