How often should a microwave be changed - from a safety point of view, if not aesthetically and even if it's still working ok.?

    It absolutely doesn't matter. As long as it works you can keep using it.

    You should wipe out the inside of the cooking chamber regularly. Anytime stuff splatters inside, and otherwise once a week.

    Doing this .. you don't HAVE to replace your microwave . .not until it breaks down.

    If you are worried about microwave leakage put your cell phone in the microwave. Call your number, it it rings then the microwave is leaking.

    When your current one stops working or seems like it takes forever to heat something could have something going on with it.

    a microwave generally lasts for 10 years before needing to be replaced. Therefore, if your microwave is older than 10 years old, it most likely needs replacing.
