Was this the best reaction?

A woman hit on my friend who is my ex boyfriend while we were out together. We still love each other, so we have agreed to remain as close friends until we’re ready to get back together. I stayed cool and polite as she asked us personal questions about whether either one of us lived alone or with anyone. My friend was polite to her but distant.

As opposed to punching her in the face, yeah. But if you too have vowed to remain celibate while you try to work on your relationship you pretty much owe it to other people to let that be known. If you're going to go out together all the time (but not "dating", which is strange) just tell people you're a couple so you don't have to explain yourselves. You are basically functioning as a couple if you don't consider yourselves free to date others.

Yes, she clearly wanted you to get upset or clingy or react.

Be cool, be polite, and give her zero emotion.
