Growing up, whenever my family and I were invited to dinner elsewhere, our parents would tell us to wash the dishes (& fair enough, because we were the guests & it’s a way to show gratitude). However, when my parents invited people over for dinner, we were still expected to wash the dishes. Despite us not being the guests. I get it’s awkward to ask a guest to wash up after dinner. But why do some parents hold that expectation for the kids?
