When I was a child my parents forced me to attend church and religion was a major topic of discussion at home. As I matured, I became increasingly skeptical of simple-minded fundamentalist Christianity and was eventually forced to realize I couldn't avoid admitting my own atheism if I wasn't going to be a hypocrite. To this day, six decades later, I still consider myself an atheist because I simply cannot force myself to pretend my subjective mental experiences and personal beliefs are actually able to influence real physical outcomes.
Because I now have a decidedly scientific worldview, I consider it a matter of intellectual integrity to oppose the philosophical nonsense propagated by superstitious believers. I'm here to atone for my childish beliefs before I was educated and became able to understand how objective physical reality actually operates. As I now understand it, Christianity's dogma seriously misrepresents how reality actually operates and I believe brainwashing children with such nonsense seriously undermines their education, their potential for future employment, and literally threatens the future productivity and prosperity of the country I love.
