It is definitely treated as a philosophy by humans who do not wish to be held accountable for their massive consumerism and gobbling up of Earth's finite resources.
They treat it as a philosophy by ignoring the scientific facts used to produce statistical records. Or, another tactic, they claim that drastic swings in temperatures on Earth have been happening on and off for millions of years, long before any humans could be suspected of contributing to that. This, they claim, entitles them to think philosophically about human contribution as being very slight indeed and of mild academic interest but in no way reason for them to change their greedy consumerist desires.
There certainly is a philosophy at work in the minds of those who deny humans should be held responsible for, and accountable, for increasingly violent swings in weather patterns nowadays. It's the philosophy of self-justification. But it can only be held by ignoring the now massive build-up of scientific facts.
