my piranha live in a 55 gal. tank and lately a black dirt like substance gathering at the bottom i have a new filter i dont know what it is?

    some ion exchange resin used in filters is black as is the activated charcoal

    What filter.? What flow rate.?

    But even with a filter there's regular maintenance with a gravel siphon cleaner that needs to be done.

    Do you have an undergravel filter or side hanger. I'd use both. Piranha tanks are notoriously dirty.

    Use a ciphon cleaner..LONG tube with a small hose to suck it out. Refill declor
