there are a few basic ways to solve such equations, and the main two steps are to multiply both sides by the same number (6 in this case because it gets rid of the fraction) and by adding or subtracting both sides by the same number (get all the number values to one side).

6*(5x+16/6)=6*6; simplify gives 30x+16=36

30x+16-16=36-16; simplify gives 30x=20

30x/30=20/30 simplify gives x=2/3

Get rid of the fraction by multiplying the equation by 6:

6*5x + 6 * 16/6 = 6*6

30x + 16 = 36

Subtract 16 from both sides of the equation.

30x = 36 -16 = 20

Divide both sides of the equation by 30:

x = 20/30 = 2/3

Check by substituting x = 2/3 back into the equation:

5 * 2/3 +16/6 = 6

Notice 16/6 = (16/2)/(6/2) = 8/3

5 * 2/3 + 8/3 = 10/3 + 8/3 = 18/3 = 6

Checks!

x = 2/3 = 0.666666......

5x + 16/6 = 6

5x + 8/3 = 6

5x = 6 - 8/3

5x = 18/3 - 8/3

5x = 10/3

x = 2/3

If you meant (5x + 16)/6 = 6, then

5x + 16 = 36

5x = 20

x = 4

It depends upon what the question is .

Is it : -

1)

(5x + 16)/6 = 6

5x + 16 = 36

5x. = 20

x = 4

6

or

2)

5x + (16/6) = 6

30x + 16 = 36

30x =. 20

x = 2/3

PS

Use brackets ! ! ! !
